Today, The Walt Disney Company announced the final day to enjoy TriceraTop Spin, Fossil Fun Games, and Chester & Hester’s Dinosaur Treasures at Disney’s Animal Kingdom Theme Park. The final day of operation for these Dinoland U.S.A attractions will be January 12th, 2025.
This means on January 13th, 2025, walls will be going up around Dinoland’s carnival area and other nearby attractions.
Some Dinoland Attractions to Remain Open Longer
Other attractions in the area, including DINOSAUR, the Boneyard, Restaurantosaurus, Dino-Bite Snacks, and Trilo-Bites will remain open in early 2025, with their respective refurbishment details to be announced later. Disney is targeting a 2027 completion date for Tropical Americas.
Why Close These Attractions First?
Mickey Views believes this first phased closure is focused on getting construction started at the Encanto-themed dark ride.
Announced at D23 in August, the Tropical Americas land at Disney’s Animal Kingdom Park will feature an Encanto-themed dark ride where guests will be invited into the casita from the film.
The ride system for this attraction has not been confirmed. At the time of this report, we suspect it will employ a trackless ride system. In earlier reports, we suggested the attraction could be an omnimover like the Haunted Mansion. However, the interior rendering Disney released in August (above) appears to show a trackless ride seating configuration.
On the January 13th closure of TriceraTop Spin and the carnival area, this area must be cleared to begin work on the IP Carousel. Officially announced at D23 in August, a new family attraction carousel featuring characters from an assortment of Disney films will be housed at The Boneyard’s present location.
More to Come
Since DINOSAUR’S thematic update from Dinosaur (2000) to Lucasfilm’s Indiana Jones property is expected to take less time, it is logical we’d see the attractions in the vicinity of the former Primeval Whirl attraction, where Encanto will go, close first.
