Calling all Space Rangers! Buzz Lightyear’s Space Ranger Spin in Tomorrowland at Magic Kingdom Park is now closed for a big update! On August 4th, 2025, Walt Disney World’s Buzz Lightyear attraction closed for a non-standard refurbishment in which new tech and theming will be added!
Brand New Scene!

First up, as part of this quality-of-life update to Buzz Lightyear’s, a new scene will greet guests at the start of the ride!
Disney says “This friendly robot — aptly named “Buddy” — was created by Walt Disney Imagineering and Pixar Animation Studios to play a key role on the Star Command team.”
“As a support-bot, Buddy makes sure departing Space Rangers are fully prepared for their mission, enthusiastically providing encouragement, final system checks on their Star Cruisers and a chance to hone their blaster aim. This will be a great time for guests to check out some of the new, interactive target features before blasting off to defeat the Evil Emperor Zurg and save the galaxy.”

New Handheld Blasters!
“Each ride vehicle will now include handheld blasters for better aim, helping guests to score even more points. These new blasters will be perfect for our younger riders, allowing them to participate more in the experience.”

“And, if you’ve ever wondered where you’re aiming (don’t worry, you’re not alone), these enhanced blasters will now include an always-on laser and come in two different colors per star cruiser, in addition to new lighting, sound and vibration effects, so players know where they’re aiming throughout the mission.”

New Interactive Targets!
Lastly, as part of these attraction upgrades, the existing targets will be replaced with illuminated ones to complement the new handheld blasters!

In the above photo, you can catch a glimpse of Walt Disney Imagineers playtesting the new illuminated targets and handheld blasters which will soon populate the attraction. Disney is teasing that the new illuminated Z targets open up possibilities for a few other effects Imagineers plan on adding, with more details to come!
No More 999,999
As part of this update, the new scoring system and video display in each ride vehicle will enable new high scores far beyond the previous 999,999 limit!
